transcending layers (second semester passion project)
In this project I will transcend the boundaries of which we perceive art by mixing mediums and combining visual and aural art(stuff we absorb by listening). The result? Viewers will be processing multiple mediums, and possibly, multiple stories at once. Does the visual art change the experience of listening to the music? Does listening to music alter the experience of taking in the images? Do they feed off of each other or are they independent pieces being shown simultaneously? Perhaps through this process another form of art will emerge: the art of individual interpretation.
For my second semester passion project I have compiled a five-song demo of original music. I am featuring one song on my website, but the full-length demo hasn't been released yet and I will be charging folks one or two bucks before I post it on the Internet for free listening. I have also created a lyricbook that incorporates every single form of art I do(music, songwriting, poetry, sketches, photography, multimedia) and therefore is very close to me. In the lyricbook, I printed, cut, and pasted the lyrics for each song onto a photo I have taken, then scanned the whole thing so it becomes a single layer. The book closes with parts of the illustration I made(featured on the front and back covers) surrounded by original poetry. The colored parts on the cover and the little tabs next to the song titles on the back are cut from an original photograph. The first page of the book features pdx roundup, which is playing in a slideshow below. pdx roundup is a montage of sixteen photographs I have taken that represent the identity of my city, my vision, and pinpoints my inspiration.
This project is all about multiple layers at once, 3-D textures and separate mediums blending together and creating a smorgasboard of beautiful original art. I have put so so many hours and so much effort into this project and am satisfied with the outcome. Here it is.

For my second semester passion project I am recording a five-song demo of original music. I am also creating a lyric book to hopefully enhance the experience. The book will feature full lyrics to all five songs appearing in the form of handwritten text over top original photographs that create a nice, simple background. The book will open with pdx roundup, a collection of photographs I have taken that more or less incapsulate my city and my vision. The below slideshow is just the beginning of this collection.

Haul Video
The summer between seventh and eighth grade, I had a beauty/fashion Youtube channel that I was very serious about. Looking back, it's pretty embarrassing that I put these videos up on the internet and so Ruby and I decided to make a haul parody in the spirit of my old videos.
Marmoset Project
Clip from the television show Oswald from the episode A Day At The Beach. All rights go to the show. Music is On My Way by The Dimes from the Marmoset website.
Dramatic Reading
This is a dramatic reading of a passage from the Book Thief by Markus Zusak, performed by my friend Courtney Keogh. I added some sound effects as a second layer that I felt enhanced the mood of the piece. The selected passage reminded me of walking outside surrounded by a brisk wind and the heavy noise of traffic. *Side Note: This video is meant to be played as an audio file, so disregard the video clips. I had to use them to edit the audio.
Summer in the Plum Orchards-Interview Project
For this project I interviewed my mom, Jennifer Sawicki, on growing up in rural Milwaulkie and Clackamas. As always, I loved hearing her stories about biking the dirt paths and spending long summer days catching salamanders in the creek and picking plums in the orchard. I chose her because she is a very descriptive and beautiful storyteller; she paints a picture and a memory with her words. Music: We're Gonna be Friends by the White Stripes.
5x5: Story of a Seashell
This is my second 5x5 video; it was decided that this one tells a more complete story than the last one. Filmed at Neskowin Beach. Music: We Are Nowhere And It's Now by Bright Eyes.
5x5: 7am
This is a 5x5 film because, excluding the title, it has five scenes, each five seconds long. It is about my morning a couple weeks ago and walking around in the cold by yourself, but not in a precisely sad or lonely way. The track that you hear in this film is written, recorded, sung, and played by me! A full version will be featured on my upcoming album.
Windows & Doors
These pictures remind me of the fall, when the sky held clouds and the sun glittered, crystallizing every surface it touched. I took these pictures at a favorite spot of mine, the swingset and top of the golf course behind Crystal Springs.
